Business intelligence analysts usually sit at the intersection of data, business strategy, and decision-making. Their job is not just to pull numbers, but to turn data into information that helps a company understand what is happening, why it is happening, and what to do next.

Some of the key skills include strong SQL and data analysis ability, comfort with dashboards and visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau, Excel skills, and a good understanding of how to work with large data sets. Just as important, they need critical thinking and communication skills, because they often have to explain trends, risks, and opportunities to people who are not very technical.

Common responsibilities often include gathering and cleaning data, building reports and dashboards, tracking KPIs, spotting trends, analyzing business performance, and helping leaders make better decisions. In many roles, they also work with different departments to understand what information is needed and how to present it in a useful way.

I would say one of the most important parts of the role is translating between the business side and the data side. A strong BI analyst knows how to ask good questions, find meaningful patterns, and present insights clearly enough that people can act on them.

So in simple terms, the key responsibilities are analyzing data and reporting insights, and the key skills are technical ability, business understanding, attention to detail, and clear communication.
