Massage Therapists

Job Search Tips for Experienced Male Massage Therapists

I live in Los Angeles. I’m a senior citizen, and have been a massage therapist for 20 plus years. I’m licensed. I’m a male. I have applied for just about every advertised massage therapy job around, but no one responds to my application. How can I get work?

You’re not crazy. A lot of massage ads in LA are basically dead, and the places that are hiring often don’t respond through job boards.

If you’ve been applying everywhere and hearing nothing, I’d stop “mass applying” and go more direct. Pick 10–15 places you’d actually work at and reach out straight to the owner/manager with a short note: license, modalities, availability, and what type of clients you’re best with. That gets replies way more often than a resume in a pile.

Also, if you’re open to it, chiro/PT clinics and gyms tend to be more consistent than spas.

What kind of work are you trying to get, spa vs clinic vs private clients? And what modalities + hours do you have available?

Quick question: are you CAMTC certified and listing that clearly on your resume/subject line? In LA, a lot of studios/spas won’t respond if they don’t immediately see CAMTC + your modality focus. If you share what settings you’re applying to (chiro/med spa/hotel spa/mobile), I can suggest some ways to position your experience.
