The fastest way to get a “US remote job” while living in Africa is to aim for roles that are explicitly open to international hiring and to understand the two common legal setups US companies use.

  1. Target companies that hire internationally (not “US remote only”)
Many US job posts say “remote” but still require you to be in the US for tax, payroll, or compliance reasons. Filter for roles that say things like “Worldwide,” “International,” “EMEA/Africa eligible,” or “work from anywhere.”

  2. Know the two ways US companies can hire you from abroad

-As an independent contractor (common for early-stage companies). You’ll usually be asked for IRS Form W-8BEN to document non-US tax status.

-Through an Employer of Record (EOR), where a global HR provider employs you locally on the company’s behalf.

  1. Use platforms that already place non-US candidates with US companies
If you’re in tech, platforms like Turing are explicitly built around matching international talent to US companies (they also list country-specific pages, including multiple African countries).
For broader “work-from-anywhere” listings, job boards like Remote OK are useful, but you still need to verify the location eligibility in each posting.

  2. Make “remote readiness” obvious in your profile
US employers hiring internationally look for low-risk execution signals: async communication, documented work, strong writing, clear deliverables, and comfort collaborating across time zones.

  3. Expect location blockers and plan around them
Some roles can’t be done from outside the US due to customer data rules, export controls, government contracting, or “must be authorized to work in the US” policies. Don’t waste time fighting those—focus on companies set up for international hiring.

To point you to the best sites and job titles: what type of work are you targeting (software/dev, data, customer support, design, ops), and do you want “work from anywhere” or are you okay working US hours?
